Dr. Miller served as Chief Resident and was recognized for assisting in pioneering the foot and ankle program at the 700+ bed Level 1 trauma center in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Miller began his career in 2001 teaching in the Department of Surgery at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine where he served as Residency Director of the Temple University Health Systems/Northeastern Hospital podiatric residency program and Chief of the Section. In 2002, Dr. Miller was honored in the Temple University “Gallery of Success”, an annual prestige that is awarded to a recent and past Temple graduate who has excelled in their chosen career. Dr. Miller continues to hold the rank of Associate Professor as an adjunct faculty member in the Dept. of Surgery at TUSPM. He has been chosen as a Top Doc multiple times in Philadelphia and Main Line Today magazines.

Dr. Miller has written numerous articles in several peer reviewed journals, presented many poster abstracts at national meetings, written and edited chapters in board review books and lectures both nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to foot and ankle surgery. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery and The Foot and Ankle Journal Online.

The PA Intensive Lower Extremity Fellowship program was founded by Dr. Miller in 2011 and was recognized by the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons as the nation’s first 2 year foot & ankle post graduate training program. In 2013, he formed a new 3 year residency program at Phoenixville Hospital to serve the community and provide training opportunities for graduating DPM students nationwide.

Dr. Gans is the team physician for several local athletic departments. Dr. Gans was a high-level competitive gymnast and national champion competitive kite flyer. He served as the assistant team physician for the University of Pennsylvania NCAA football, wrestling and gymnastics teams; University of the Sciences NCAA athletics department, and the Bonner-Prendergast Catholic High School football team.

In his free time, Dr. Gans enjoys cycling, rock climbing, and boating and cruising in the Chesapeake Bay.

INTERESTING FACTS

Dr. Gans is the Director of Cartilage Restoration and Joint Preservation and is a clinical specialist focusing on sports injuries and arthroscopy of the hip, knee and shoulder. He has special interests in regenerative medicine, cartilage transplantation and restoration (Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation [ACI], Osteochondral Autogrant Transplant, Osteochondral Allograft Transplantation, microfracture, and chondroplasty), and meniscal transplant procedures.

He has keen interest in ACL reconstruction, complex ligament reconstructions of the knee, advanced knee arthroscopy, meniscus tears, patella instability/dislocation, patellofemoral malalignment/instability, and shoulder instability. His clinical specialties also include rotator cuff repair and superior capsular reconstruction, pediatric knee, shoulder, and ankle arthroscopy, pediatric ACL reconstruction (including special training in growth plate preserving techniques), and treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and shoulder.

Dr. Gans has written numerous scientific articles in several peer reviewed journals, presented many lectures and poster abstracts at national meetings, and written several chapters in textbooks on a variety of topics related to orthopaedics and sports medicine.  

During his residency, Dr. Gans’ complex research earned an Orthopaedic Research Education Foundation Resident Research Project Grant Award. He enjoys teaching students, residents, and his patients, and takes great pride in helping patients achieve great clinical outcomes.

Dr. Emerel took an early interest in Foot & Ankle when he participated in Division I Track & Field/Cross Country at Marist College. During his time as a podiatry student and resident, he completed many competitive races including Philadelphia Marathon and Broad Street Run. After residency, he completed advanced training in complex lower extremity traumatic fractures and ankle arthroplasty/implant at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Dr. Emerel was born in Moscow, Russia and is fluent in Russian.
